A Second Straight Snowy Senior Day Celebration

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/13/21)---For the second straight time, Concordia had a snowy Senior Day celebration. In 2019, the Cobbers hosted St. Olaf during a snow storm. On Saturday, Concordia battled the snow and Gustavus in the final game of the year.

The Cobbers could never find an offensive rhythm, had five "3-and-outs" in the first half and lost 39-7 in the battle between divisional second-place teams.

In a game played on a snow-covered field, Concordia's recent mix of pass and run was slowed and the Cobbers were outgained 497-208. The Gusties were able to have success in the passing game. They finished with 371 passing yards, had six pass plays of over 30 yards and finished with four passing touchdowns.

Concordia's big play of the game came courtesy of senior running back Peyton Mortenson. Mortenson took a handoff on 2nd-and-10 in the fourth quarter and raced 80 yards for a touchdown. The 80-yard touchdown was the Cobbers' longest rush of the season.

Mortenson finished the game with 13 carries for 138 yards. The 138 rushing yards which is the second highest total of the season for Mortenson. He had 172 yards against Macalester.

Mortenson finishes the year with a team-best 563 rushing yards. He had 554 rushing yards in conference play which was fourth in the conference.

Senior Noah Jenson led the Cobber defense with 16 total tackles. He also had a forced fumble and 0.5 tackles for a loss.

Jenson finishes the year as the team's leader in tackles. He had 48 solo tackles and 29 assisted take downs for a total of 77 tackles.  

Senior Grant Schoen came up with one of the two Cobber turnovers on the day. He intercepted a pass in the second quarter as the Gusties were driving deep in Concordia territory.

Mitchell Sullivan added nine tackles and Marshall King and Chase Dockter added seven each as the Cobbers had a 76 total tackles in the game.
