Uhrich Makes Triumphant Return In Cobber Win

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (9/01/15)—Senior Melissa Uhrich made a triumphant return to competitive racing as she claimed the individual title and helped Concordia beat Jamestown 21-40 in a dual meet to start the 2015 season.

Uhrich, who has been sidelined since the spring of 2014 with an injury, raced to a 19:54.44 over the 5K course and won the meet by over six seconds. She led a contingent of three CC runners that finished in the top 4 of the race. The Cobbers also had seven of the top 10 for the dual.

A pair of freshman made their mark in their first collegiate meet. Brianna Gruenberg was third in a time of 20:45.53 and fellow first-year athlete Sarah Kuball was less than a second behind in fourth place as she crossed the line at 20:45.71.

Ingrid Floersheim, Andrea Schmitt, Maria West and Sarah Curran came home as the No.6,7,8 and 9 finishers. Floersheim led the quartet in sixth place at 21:37.51. All four runners finished the course in under 22 minutes.

Concordia will have to wait 10 days for their next meet. The Cobbers will participate in the first-ever MSU Moorhead Twilight Meet which will be held at the Moorhead Soccer Complex beginning at 8:15 p.m.
