Another Season Accomplishment Bites The Dust

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. (10/18/14)—Sophomore Kaya Baker crossed one more accomplishment off her season "to-do" list as she won the individual championship at the St. Boni Invite. Baker's winning time helped Concordia place second in the team competition.

Baker, who came out of nowhere at the start of the season to become the team's No.1 runner, had posted a pair of top 20 finishes and a top 3 finish during the season but had never crossed the finish line in first place. That accomplishment can now be checked off in the final meet before the conference championship race.

Baker covered the 6k course in a time of 22:49.9 which was four seconds faster than the next competitor. Her time is a season best by over a full two minutes.

Baker was one of three Concordia runners to place in the top 10 at the St. Boni Invite. Freshman Sarah Curran continued her trend as the team's No.2 runner by posting a time of 24:33.2 and finishing in ninth place. Her time is also a season best over a 6k course.

Senior Anna Sneltjes was close behind Curran and placed 10th. She came home in 24:45.8.

Susan Drache and Kaley Hedberg were the final two members of the top 5 for the Cobbers. The tandem was able to pace each other and crossed the line within 10 seconds of one another. Drache posted her second top 20 finish of the season. She ran a 25:39.4 and claimed the No.20 spot. Hedberg was right behind in 21st place with a finishing time of 25:50.2.

The Cobbers will now have two weeks to prepare for the MIAC Championship Meet. The annual conference meet will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Como Park GC in St. Paul.
