A US Postal Service Special

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (10/11/13)—Concordia was like the US Postal Service at the Jamestown Invitational on Friday as neither lightning nor rain nor the loss of four top runners could stop the Cobbers from delivering a quality result.

The Cobbers were without four of their top seven runners on Friday due to injury or prior commitments. The race was also delayed for 60 minutes due to a lightning storm that swept through the area at the start of the meet. The meet was then run on a very wet course that refused to yield extremely fast times.

In the end Concordia placed three runners in the top 20 at the meet and came away with a fourth-place finish.

"The delay, weather, and running short-handed all forced the team to bond together and be scrappy- they did well, I'm proud of them," commented head coach Marv Roeske.

Senior Hannah Knickerbocker led the way for the Cobbers. She ran a 19:50 over the 5k course and earned a spot in the top 10 by finishing in ninth place. Sophomore Melissa Uhrich was the team's No.2 runner on Friday. She came home with a time of 20:24 and was 13th. Callie Christianson rounded out the top 20 finishers for Concordia. She finished in 20th place with a final time of 20:58.

Kaya Baker was the lone freshmen in the Cobber top 5. It marked the second time this season she has recorded a time in the top 5 for CC. Baker crossed the finish line at the Jimmie Invite in a time of 21:24 which also earned her the second top 30 finish of her collegiate career.  Heather Olson was the final scoring member of Concordia at the meet. She was right behind Baker with a 21:25 and finished in 30th place.

Concordia will pick up their competitive scheduling when they return to action at the UW-La Crosse Invite on Oct. 19 at the Maple Grove GC in La Crosse, Wis. It will be the first time all season that CC has raced in events in back-to-back weekends.
