Cobbers Finish 13th At Roy Griak Invite

ST. PAUL, Minn. (9/24/11)—Concordia had their top 5 runners all finish within 1:00 of each other and placed 13th at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota on Saturday.

The Cobbers were led by senior Caroline McLaughlin who ran a 24:35.3 and finished in 63rd place. She was followed by a pair of CC runners who also finished in the 60's. Hannah Knickerbocker was less than :01 behind McLaughlin as she finished in a time of 24:35.8 and was 65th for the race. Both McLaughlin and Knickerbocker broke the 25-minute barrier for the first time at the Griak. Last year McLaughlin was 100th with a time of 25:13.5 and Knickerbocker was 90th in a mark of 25:06.8.

Freshman Kasey Peterson the third member of Concordia's top 3. She had an impressive finishing time of 24:37.7 in her first Griak and placed 68th.  

Paige Rygg and Elisabeth Hanson were tucked in right behind the top pack for the Cobbers. Rygg continues to improve throughout the season and was fourth on the team in a time of 25:06.7 Hanson rounded out the team's top five by clocking a 25:33.7.

Cobber head coach Marv Roeske sang the praises of Peterson and Rygg as the two underclassmen have helped Concordia step up their team results, "I'm not sure where we would be without the development of Kasey and Paige. They have helped us come together and post some good team results."

Concordia will have two weeks off before returning to action when they compete in the Pine Hill Invite in Duluth, Minn.
