A Gift-Wrapped Homecoming Present

A Gift-Wrapped Homecoming Present

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (10/14/11)—It was a memorable Homecoming for Concordia head coach Marv Roeske as the Cobbers won the Jamestown Invitational for the first time in his 12-year career. Roeske, who graduated from Jamestown in 1985, watched as CC placed four runners in the top 10 to claim their second multi-team invite title of the year.

The top Concordia runner at the Jamestown Invite was senior Caroline McLaughlin. She finished in third place with a time of 19:27. That mark is almost 1:00 faster than her time on the same course last year. McLaughlin has now led the team in two of the last three meets. She was also the top CC finisher at the Roy Griak Invite on Sept. 24.

Sophomore Paige Rygg continued her breakout season by posting the second best time for the Cobbers. She toured the 5K course in a time of 19:52 and was in fifth place. It was the first top 5 finish of her collegiate career and her finishing time was more than 1:00 better than last year's mark at the Jimmie Invite.

Elisabeth Hanson and Kasey Petersen rounded out the quartet of top 10 finishers. Hanson finished eighth with a time of 20:04 and Petersen was right behind in a time of 20:07 and was in ninth place. Hannah Knickerbocker was right behind that duo as she finished in 11th place with a mark of 20:15.

Senior Ana Sather made her career debut in the Cobber Top 7 with a strong 15th place performance. She was the teams No.6 runner at the meet with a time of 20:52. Sather was followed closely by an emerging second pack of six other Concordia runners as CC put 12 runners ahead of Minot State's No.6 runner and Jamestown's No. 7 finisher. Minot State was second as a team at the meet and the Jimmies finished in third place.

Cobber senior Erika Nelson led a group of CC veterans who set personal best times when she dropped her 2010 by over 1:30. It was her third consecutive race with a PR.  In the end, Concordia had 21 of the team's 27 racers set personal best times over a 5K course.

Concordia will now have a two-week break to train for the MIAC Championship Meet. The Cobbers will compete at the conference meet on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 2:15 p.m. at the Como Park GC in St. Paul.
