Cobbers Fall To No.25-Raked Gustavus

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/16/24)---Concordia dropped a 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-20) decision to No.25-ranked Gustavus in MIAC action on Wednesday.

The loss ends Concordia's 2-match conference win streak at home. The Cobbers are now 2-18 overall and 2-4 in the MIAC. The Gusties remain unbeaten in league play. GAC is 13-9 in all matches and 6-0 in the conference.

The best set for the Cobbers on the night came in the final bout where there were six tie scores. CC led in the early stages of the third set. They held a 6-3 and duplicated the 3-point lead at 12-9 before Gustavus won three straight to tie the set at 12-12. The Cobbers led 14-13 and were tied at 17-17 before the Gusties closed out the match on a within one point an 8-3 run.

Concordia hit a match-high .182 in the third set and finished the match with a .125 attack percentage. The Cobbers posted 24 kills in the three sets. Gustavus came away with 54 winners and hit .363.

Mallory Leitner and Cayla Sailer combined for 15 of the team's 24 kills. Leitner finished with eight winners and hit a team-best .353. Sailor had seven kills and also recorded seven digs.

Betsy Schiltz had 19 assists to lead the offense, while Kelsi Martini came up with 10 digs to lead the defense. Megan Olson had three blocks in the contest.

Concordia will step out of MIAC play for their final non-conference match of the season when they play at Minn.-Morris on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m.
