Tough Day 2 In St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. (8/31/19)---The second day of the 2019 season didn't turn out as well as Day 1 for Concordia. The Cobbers dropped a pair of 3-1 decisions to St. Scholastica and Coe in the final day of the Northwestern Invite in St. Paul.

Concordia won the second set in both matches but were unable to string together long stretches of points and fell to 1-2 on the season.

The Cobbers lost 25-21, 17-25, 25-19, 25-12 against the Saints in the opening match of the morning and then dropped a 25-18, 19-25, 25-19, 25-22) decision to the Kohawks in the final bout of the tournament.

Kills and total attacks were part of the keys in both matches. Concordia had 23 fewer kills and 43 fewer total attacks in the two matches. The Cobbers hit below .140 in both matches.

Concordia hit .132 and had 43 kills in the first match as opposed to 53 winners and a .153 attack percentage for St. Scholastica.

Anna Brakke was the only CC player with more than six kills in the match. She had 11 winners and hit .243. Lexi Turn put up 17 assists and Gabby DeBoer had 23 digs. Kendra Wiggs had seven block assists in the 4-set match.

The Cobbers outhit Coe in the second match but the Kohawks had 27 more attack chances and 13 more kills. CC hit .139 for the match and had 41 kills.

Wiggs was the only Cobber with a double-digit kill total. She finished with 10 winners and five blocks. She ended the weekend with 24 total kills which was second to Brakke who had 31 winners in the three matches.

Turn once again led the offense. She had 19 helpers and finished with 55 for the tournament. DeBoer had 24 digs and came away with 75 in the three matches over the weekend. Brianna Carney led the front-line defense with 10 blocks – including two solo blocks.
