Going The Distance In Grand Forks

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (01/29/22)---Concordia took to the road for the first time in the 2022 and finished in seventh place at the UND Open.

Senior Isabel Fredrickson led the Cobbers with a fourth-place finish in the mile run in the meet that featured mostly NCAA Division I and II athletes.

Fredrickson clocked a time of 5:20.22 which puts her in the No.11 spot in the MIAC this season. It is also the fastest time run by a Cobber athlete in the mile this year.

The other Top 5 track performance was turned in by freshman Drew Frolek. Frolek, who won the mile at last weekend's Cobber Open, was fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:25.10. That puts Frolek in the sixth spot in the MIAC this year.

Concordia's top relay mark at the meet was turned in by the 4x400-meter relay team of Eden Smith, Fredrickson, Mary Wunderlich and Frolek who clocked a 4:19.37 and finished in fourth place. That time is No.5 on the MIAC list this year.

For the second straight week senior Cayle Hovland led the contingent of Cobber throwers at the meet. She was fifth in both the shot put and weight throw, and placed third in the rare indoor discus competition.

Hovland's best event of the day came in the weight throw where she produced a season-best distance of 51-02.75. That bettered her distance at the Cobber Open by 2.75 inches. Hovland recorded a mark of 41-01.00 in the shot put which also got her a fifth-place finish. Her final distance was just shy of her season best. Hovland was third in the only indoor discus event of the year with a distance of 134-10.

Allyson Kangas and Emily White both had a pair of Top 10 finishes in the shot put and weight throw events. Kangas was seventh in the shot put at 40-00.50 and eighth in the weight throw with a mark of 47-00.75.

White came through with her best day of the season. She posted season-best marks in both the shot put and weight throw – and finished in 10th place in both events. White had a distance of 37-07.25 in the shot put and 45-00.50 in the weight throw.

Both of White's final's distances at UND push her into the Top 10 in the MIAC in both events. They also give the Cobbers four athletes in the Top 10 in both the shot put and weight throw.

Joining Hovland, Kangas and White is Jacey Schlosser who was ninth in the weight throw and sixth in the discus at UND. Schlosser's final distance in the weight throw was 45-06.25 and she recorded a mark of 123-09 in the discus.

UP NEXT: Concordia will return to the F-M for their next meet when they head to Fargo to compete in the NDSU Bison Open and Multi-Event Meet on Feb. 4-5.
