Cobbers Close Out 2024 In Style

FARGO, N.D. (4/19/24)---Concordia saved its best for last as they claimed a 6-3 win over Hamline in the final match of the 2024 season.

The Cobbers recorded a pair of wins in doubles play and then cruised to four wins in the singles competition to record their first MIAC win of the year. Concordia finishes 2024 with a 4-18 overall mark.

The senior pairing of Raquel Egge and Mary Skorich led the way for Concordia. They teamed up to get the win at No.1 doubles and then each won their singles bouts. Egge and Skorich eased their way to an 8-2 win in doubles play. The win was their team-leading fourth of the year and they finished the season with a 4-9 record.

Egge stepped into singles play and put up the double bagel at No.1 singles. The 6-0, 6-0 win was her fifth of the year. Egge finished with 34 career singles wins.

Skorich was right behind Egge in terms of the amount of time spent on the court. She came away with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No.2 singles to record her sixth win of the season. Skorich ended her final three seasons in maroon and gold with 20 singles victories.

The second doubles win came from the No.3 doubles team of Lizzie Allan and Bell Hamre. They were able to outlast their opponents by winning clutch points at the end of the match and earned an 8-6 win.

Junior Erin Borchard and first-year player Annalise Skrade put the match away for Concordia with their singles wins in the No.3 and No.6 spots.

Borchard put pressure on her Piper opponent the entire match and posted a straight-set 6-3, 6-4 win at No.3 singles. The victory gave Borchard eight singles wins on the year – the most by any Cobber player in 2024.

Like Borchard, Skrade also came through with a straight-set win. Unlike Borchard, she had to grind out a tie-break victory in the first set. She won the tie-breaker 10-8 in the opening set which took the wind out of the sails of her opponent and Skrade was able to breeze to a 6-1 win in the second set. Skrade earned five singles in her first year as a Cobber and was 3-0 in her last three singles bouts.
