The opening match of the weekend was a lot closer than the final team scoreline showed. The Cobbers dropped the first two doubles bouts by two games each. In singles play, CC won at least five games in five of the six matches.

Raquel Egge and Mary Skorich lost an 8-6 bout at No.1 doubles in a match that featured many quality rallies. The Cobbers' No.2 tandem of Anna Hacker and Erin Borchard fell by an identical score in a pair of matches that could have gone either way.

Borchard was locked up in the closest singles match. She lost in the super-set tie-breaker at No. 4 singles. Borchard claimed a 6-2 win in the opening set but then lost 6-3 in the second. She wasn't able to regain her form from the first set and lost 10-6 in the tie-breaker.

First-year athlete Annalise Skrade won the most games from the other five singles matches. Skrade started slowly, losing 6-1 in the first set. She then found her stride and battled into extra games before falling 7-5 in the second set.

Egge led the Cobbers in the second match of the weekend. She collected wins in both her doubles and singles matches to collect two of the three team points on the day.

Egge and Skorich opened Sunday by pulling away from their opponent at No.1 doubles to record an 8-4 win.

Their were two key matches that went in favor of the Saints in the match. The first came at No.2 doubles where Concordia's duo of Hacker and Borchard played a marathon match that was finally settled in extra points in the tie-breaker. The match was tied at 7-7 and went to the 7-point tie-breaker which was within one point at the finish line. The St. Scholastica doubles team was finally able to eke out the 13-11 win in the tie-breaker.

The other swing match came at No.6 singles, where Skrade rallied to tie the match at 1-1 with a 6-3 victory in the second set only to drop a 10-3 decision in the super-set.

Egge double bageled her opponent at No.1 singles to grab one of the team's singles wins. The other came at No.4 where Borchard posted a 6-1, 6-3 straight-set victory.

UP NEXT: Concordia will have an away/home conference doubleheader next weekend when they play at Bethel on Saturday, Feb. 24 and then return home to host St. Catherine on Sunday, Feb. 25 at Courts Plus in Fargo.
