Cobbers Battle Division II Dragons

FARGO, N.D. (2/04/24)---Concordia battled Division II MSU Moorhead in its first match of the spring held at Courts Plus in Fargo.

The Cobbers had several close matches in the team score that was played under the 7-point DII scoring system where the three doubles bouts only yield one team point.

The Concordia No.1 doubles team of Raquel Egge and Mary Skorich was edged 6-4 in a back-and-forth match. Lizzie Allan and Annalise Skrade lost by the identical margin at No.3 doubles as both dubs teams couldn't come up with a key break of serve.

Allan was locked into the closest singles match of the day. She lost in the tie-breaker in the first set at No.5 singles and then dropped the second set to lose 7-6, 6-1. The tie-breaker featured momentum shifts at each point and went into extra points with Allan falling 10-8.

Junior Erin Borchard played in the other singles match that featured a tie-breaker. Borchard lost the opening set 6-4 at No.4 singles before falling in the tie-breaker 7-6 (1).

UP NEXT: Concordia will continue with its non-conference schedule next weekend when they host Northwestern on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. and then travel to Grand Forks to take on Minn.-Crookston on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 9:45 a.m.
