Win-Win Weekend Weekend Pushes Cobbers' Streak To 3

ST. PAUL, Minn. (3/19/23)---Concordia completed its MIAC weekend sweep by cruising past Hamline 7-2. The win followed the Cobbers thrilling 5-4 victory at St. Mary's on Saturday.

The two wins brings the Cobbers' season record to 9-7. The nine wins are the most by a CC team since the 2012 season when Concordia went 13-8. The Cobbers have now won three straight matches and four of their last five.

Concordia won four of the six doubles matches over the weekend as they gained momentum in each match by claiming two of the three doubles bouts to start the contest.

Raquel Egge, Lizzie Allan and Erin Borchard were clutch in singles plays in Concordia's two wins. All three athletes won their singles contests against the Cardinals and Pipers.

The Cobbers used the strength of their doubles play to beat St. Mary's 5-4 on Saturday. Borchard and Emily Savageau came through with an 8-4 win at No.3 doubles. The match of the day came at No.2 doubles where Anna Hacker and Allan needed to go to the tie-breaker to earn an 8-7 (4) win. The victory would end up being the difference in the team match as both squads recorded three singles wins.

Egge made quick work of her match at No.1 singles by posting a 6-2, 6-1 win. Borchard followed suit with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at No.6 singles. Allan earned her win due to her opponent retiring midway through the second set. Allan lost the opening set 6-1. The second set was tied at 2-2 before the SMU athlete had to stop due to an injury.

The closest singles match on Saturday came at No.2 singles, where Mary Skorich was edged 4-6, 6-4, 10-4 in the super-set tie-breaker.

The match on Sunday was all Concordia. They won two doubles bouts, and then claimed five of the six singles matches.

Egge, Skorich, Allan and Borchard all rolled to straight-set wins, while Savageau came through with a super-set victory.

Allan and Borchard lead the Cobbers in singles play – and both athletes have won five straight singles matches. Allan is 11-5 on the year, while Borchard is close behind at 10-5. Egge's two wins over the weekend brought her singles record to 9-6 for the season.
