Cobbers Finish Florida With A 4-1 Record

ORLANDO, Fla. (03/03/2022)---They say that "all good things must come to an end" and that was the case for the Cobbers on their final day in Florida.

Not only did Concordia have their five matches in Florida end, but they also had their 4-match winning streak come to an end. The Cobbers beat Regis 6-3 in the opening match of the day to record their fourth straight victory, but then fell 6-3 against unbeaten Calvin (Mich.).

Concordia finished 4-1 in its five matches in Florida and is 4-4 in all matches in 2022.

The Cobbers were led by junior Raquel Egge and the play of their No.2 and No.3 doubles teams on their final day of the annual spring trip to Florida.

Egee recorded straight-set wins in both of her singles bouts, as did the trio of players who played No.2 doubles on the day. Emily Savageau, Mary Skorich and Anna Hacker all combined to go 2-0 on the day. CC used four different players to record the two wins at No.3 doubles. Abby Westrum and Taylor Partington got the win against Regis and then Erin Borchard and Katie Miller duplicated the feet against Calvin.

Savageau and Skorich won 8-3 at No.2 doubles in the first match vs. Regis, and then Westrum and Partington doubled the lead with an 8-4 victory at No.3 doubles. The victories by both doubles tandems ups their doubles records on the year to 4-2. They lead the team in doubles victories in 2022.

Borchard started the four singles wins for CC when she won 6-2, 6-0 at No.6 singles. Egge followed shortly after by claiming the 6-2, 6-2 win at No.1 singles. Skorich posted the match-winning singles victory when she bettered her opponent 6-2, 6-4 at No.4 singles.

Hacker picked up her team-leading fourth singles win of the year when she came through with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win at No.3 singles.

Concordia carried the momentum, and a 2-1 lead, into their singles bouts with Calvin. Savageau and Hacker 8-4 at No.2 doubles and then Borchard and Miller captured an 8-7 (7-5) victory in the tie-breaker.

Egge would post the only singles win for the Cobbers. She came through with her second straight 6-2, 6-2 win at No.1 singles and is now 3-5 on the season.

UP NEXT: Concordia will have to get used to playing indoor tennis again when they face Carleton on Saturday, Mar. 5 at 1:30 p.m. at the Life Tim Fitness Center in Lakeville.
