Bell Is ITA National Player Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/31/21)---Brianna Bell was named the UTR/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Player of the Week.  

Bell (Jr., Wahpeton, N.D.) becomes the first Concordia player in school history to earn the ITA national honor.

The UTR ITA Player of the Week award is entering year two of being awarded. The UTR ITA Player of the Week awards program honors male and female individuals from all five divisions (NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, and Junior College) with weekly awards during the spring dual-match season.

The ITA UTR Player of the Week honors a collegiate tennis player whose increase in UTR rating throughout the previous week was indicative of his/her high level of performance, including notable wins such as clinching matches and upsets.

UTR (Universal Tennis Rating) is the global gold standard for all tennis players, which reflects their current skill level based on actual performance and is used by college coaches for evaluating player ability, seeding, selection, and more.

Bell earned the national award after her match-clinching win at No.4 singles against Northwestern on Saturday. Her win helped increase her UTR rating by .35 from her previous performance which was on Mar. 21. She entered the week with a UTR of 3.04 and then raised it to 3.39 with her singles victory. 

Bell was able to up her UTR rating by posting a thrilling super-set tiebreaker win against Northwestern. She sprinted to a 6-3 win in the opening set but the momentum shifted in the second set and her opponent matched the opening set score with a 6-3 win. Bell fought back in the super-set tiebreaker. She got out to a lead and then held on for a 10-8 win to clinch the team victory for the Cobbers.   

Bell, and the rest of the Cobbers, have a break for the Easter holiday. Concordia will return to action on Apr. 11 when they host St. Scholastica at 3:30 p.m.
