Tough Road Weekend

OWATONNA, Minn. (2/18/18)---Concordia finished off their toughest conference weekend road trip by dropping a 9-0 decision at regionally-ranked Carleton. The Cobbers started the two-day trip by losing 9-0 at St. Thomas on Saturday night.

The two losses drops Concordia's overall record to 1-5 for the season. The Cobbers are 0-3 in conference play this year.

Both of the Cobber opponents on the weekend were unbeaten in conference play and now have a combined overall record of 6-1.

The play of the doubles teams stood out in both matches as the three doubles tandems fought hard for points on Saturday and Sunday. In each match the Cobbers had one doubles duo win three games.

On Sunday the No.2 doubles squad of Lisa Neumann and Kendra Stoick dropped an 8-3 decision against Carleton. The No.1 doubles team of Jenna Forknell and Maia Wendel lost 8-2 while Lexi Johnson and Irini Lagogianni fell 8-1.

In singles play, Wendel grabbed three games in the second set and fell 6-0, 6-3 at No.2 singles. Forknell was the only other CC player on Sunday to win more than one game as she lost 6-0, 6-2 at No.1 singles.

Against the Tommies on Saturday it was Josie Beachy and Johnson who lost 8-3 at No.3 doubles. Forknell and Wendel lost another 8-2 decision while Stoick and Neumann fell 8-1 at No.2 doubles.

The Cobbers had four players earn two game victories in singles play. Neumann and Beachy collected a game in each set while Forknell and Wendel lost 6-0 in one set and 6-2 in the other.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will now have a week to train and head south for their annual spring break trip. The Cobbers will play five matches over a three-day span in Orlando, Fla. at the USTA Tennis Center. Concordia will start their Florida schedule by playing Hanover (Ind.) on Monday, Feb. 26.
