Cobbers Fall At Macalester
ST. PETER, Minn. (3/26/17)---The first win of the season was also a huge milestone victory for the Cobbers. After losing at Macalester on Saturday the Cobbers rallied to post an 8-1 at Bethany Lutheran on Sunday to record the goal-achieving 125th victory for all Cobber athletic teams this year as the department helps celebrates the college's 125th anniversary.
Concordia won all three doubles matches and then five of the six singles bouts to snap its 10-match losing skid and record the athletic department's milestone win.
The most experienced member of the Cobbers led the team over the weekend as junior Kendra Stoick won both her singles matches and one of the two doubles bouts. Stoick was the only CC player to earn a point in Concordia's 8-1 loss at Macalester on Saturday. She rallied to win in the super-set tie-breaker after losing the opening set 6-2 at No.2 singles. Stoick rebounded with a 7-5 victory in the second set and then edged her opponent 10-7 in the super set. Her win on Sunday at No.2 singles was less dramatic as she rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win.
The three doubles wins on Sunday against Bethany Lutheran at the Gustavus Tennis Center marked the first three doubles victories of the year for the Cobbers. Stoick teamed with Ivy Mattson to win 8-5 at No.1 doubles. Lisa Neumann and Breann Adamek breezed to an 8-1 at No.2 doubles and Mikaila Carney and Talia Dalzell were able to take an 8-4 decision at No.3 doubles.
Mattson and Carney also posted milestone wins in singles play as both freshmen recorded their very first collegiate singled victory – and both players finished the job in straight set fashion. Mattson eased her way to a 6-1, 6-4 win at No.3 singles and Carney went double bagel at No.5 singles as she shutout her opponent 6-0, 6-0.
Neuman and Dalzell had the other singles wins for Concordia against the Vikings. Neuman won 6-2, 6-2 at No.1 singles and Dalzell went 6-2, 6-2 at No.6 singles.
Stoick, Neumann and Dalzell are all tied for the team lead in singles wins this year as all three collected their second singles victory over the weekend,
WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will have a full week to enjoy its milestone win. They will be back in action on Saturday, Apr. 1 when they host Carleton at 2 p.m. at Courts Plus in Fargo.
