Bisek Leads Cobbers In Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (11/16/24)---Concordia returned to action after a 2-week break by competing in the highly competitive Augsburg Invite.
 
The Cobbers took 19 wrestlers to Minneapolis and came away with a bevy of wins and a trio of Top 3 finishes. 
 
Senior Ty Bisek led the way for Concordia. He breezed through his first three matches to reach the Gold Division championship match in the 141-lb weight class. Bisek decided to forego the title bout and finished second on the day. 
 
He opened the meet by posting an 18-3 tech fall win. Bisek backed that up with a 9-2 decision over Brayden Sonnentag from DII MSU Mankato in the quarterfinals. He advanced to the title match with a pin at 6:54 over Sam Kotch from The College of New Jersey. 
 
Bisek is now 8-1 on the year. 
 
The other two top Gold Division finishes belonged to Elijah Hunt and Connor Chloupek. Both wrestlers advanced to the consolation semifinals before losing.
 
Hunt went 2-2 with a 22-4 tech fall win in his second match. 
 
Chloupek won his first bout of the day with a 10-2 major decision before falling in the quarterfinals. He rallied with a 7-3 decision in the second round of the quarterfinals. 
 
Both Hunt and Chloupek have six wins in their first two meets of the year.  
 
A pair of first-year athletes made a splash in the Freshman Division of the invite. Jack Major went 3-1 and placed second in the 149-lb weight class, while Zach Carnes was 2-2 and finished third at 285. 
 
Major started his meet with a pin over Cole Sarbacker from Augsburg. He posted his second pin against Manny Holloway in the quarterfinals and advanced to the championship match with a 17-3 major decision against Kaden Kremer from Upper Iowa.
 
Major has five wins in his first two collegiate meets. 
 
Carnes two wins came from the quickest pin of the day and a 5-2 decision. He put Marcos Hahn from Ridgewater CC on the mat in only 15 seconds. His decision came against Jesus Gonzales from MSU Mankato.
 
The Cobbers will turn around and head to Eau Claire, Wis. to compete in the UW-Eau Claire 8-Man Battles Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 23.
