Friday Night Wins

ST. PAUL, Minn. (1/31/25)---Junior Jaclyn Lloyd picked the perfect time to score her first goal of the year as she netted the game-winning strike in Concordia's 3-2 win at St. Catherine in the series opener.

Lloyd's goal at 4:02 of the third period gave the Cobbers their third win on a Friday night in the last four series openers.

Concordia is now 4-14-0 in all games and 3-8-0 in the MIAC.

The Cobbers held a decided edge in offensive zone time in the first period as they outshot St. Kate's 10-3 but neither team was able to get on the board and they skated to the first break deadlocked at 0-0.

Another season first opened the scoring for Concordia at 7:35 of the second period. First-year forward Camryn Iverson scored her first collegiate goal to stake CC to a 1-0 lead. Iverson took a breakout pass from Livia Hoff, skated past the red line and fired the puck on net to skate off on a line change. The puck deflected off of a Wildcat defender, took a bounce before the SCU goalie and found its way into the net.

Junior Morgan Sauvageau doubled the Cobbers' lead in the second half of the middle frame when she cut across the net from the left faceoff circle, found the loose puck and at the top of the crease and calmly slid the puck into the net after skating to the right side of the goal.

The strike was Sauvageau's team-leading eighth of the year and she is now in the Top 15 of the MIAC in goals scored for the year. Taylor Severson and Sophie Hauer were credited with the assists on the play.

St. Catherine (4-13-1, 2-9-0 MIAC) cut the Concordia lead in half with a goal in the last minute of the second period and tied the game with a second strike in the opening minute of the third period.

That set the stage for Lloyd who responded with the game-winning goal 3:35 after SCU had squared the series opener.

Lloyd took a back pass from Madilyn Skogman just inside the Wildcats' blue line, skated to the top of the left faceoff circle and then fired a wrist shot on goal. The SCU goalie made the initial save but the puck caromed off a Wildcats' defender and bounced back into the goal.

Skogman and Jerica Friese picked up the helpers on Lloyd's first goal of the season.

CC netminder Ashlea Arvidson and the Cobber defense made the 1-goal lead stand up through the remaining 15 minutes of play. Concordia allowed only three shots on goal in the final 15 minutes and held St. Kate's scoreless in their only power play attempt which came with less than 5 minutes to play in the game.

Arvidson finished the game with 10 saves as the Cobbers outshot the Wildcats 20-12 in the game.

Concordia will go for the sweep in the series when the two teams square off on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. at Drake Arena in St. Paul.
