Improvement Shown On Day 2 Of Season-Opening Invite

SARTELL, Minn. (9/04/21)---Concordia opened its first fall season in two years by finishing in 12th place at the St. Benedict Invitational.

The Cobbers left the weekend by improving 16 strokes from their first round score on Saturday to Sunday's Day 2 total. CC also had three of their top four players improve on their scores from Saturday to Sunday.  

Concordia opened the tournament by shooting a team score of 380 on Day 1. CC turned around and posted a 364 on Sunday.

The Cobbers were led by the most experienced members of the team. Junior Abbey Frauenholtz and sophomore Lillie Kirchner both shot 182 for the two rounds. Frauenholtz was the low Cobber on Day 1 as she carded a 92. She improved by two strokes on Sunday and came home with a 90. Kirchner was the only Cobber golfer to break 90 on the weekend. She fired an 86 on Sunday after posting a 96 on Saturday.

A pair of freshmen were the No.3 and No.4 scorers on the team for the opener. Ava Hanson opened her collegiate career with a 94 on Day 1 and then finished with a 95 for a 2-round total of 189. Joss Leach was two shots behind at 191 (98-93).     

UP NEXT: Concordia will look to continue to improve when they head to Hastings, Minn. to compete in the DIII Midwest Classic on Sept. 18-19 at Emerald Greens GC.
