Mireault And Cobbers Fire Season-Best Scores

Mireault And Cobbers Fire Season-Best Scores

MARSHALL, Minn. (9/23/12)—Sophomore Amy Mireault shot a season-best two-round score and helped Concordia post their season-best team score at the Southwest MN State Invitational at the Marshall GC on Sunday.

Mireault carded a 161 (79-82) for the two days and finished in a tie for 11th place while the Cobbers fired a final total of 667 (336-331) and placed seventh in the 17-team tournament.  The 667 was a 27-shot improvement from their previous season best.

Mireault has been steadily getting better throughout the season. Her final score was 10 shots better than her previous season best of 171 which she shot last weekend at the DIII Midwest Classic. Mireault also tied for low-round honors during Thursday's UM-Morris Invite.

Like Mireault, Concordia has improved with each multiple-team invitational. They started the year by coming home in with a 706 at the Concordia Invite in the first weekend of September. They beat that score last weekend at the DIII Midwest Classic when they fired a 694.

Besides Mireault's 11th-place finish, Katie Nelson and Kristi Opatz both fired a two-round total of 168 and finished in a tie for 36th place. Nelson shot an 87 on Saturday's opening round and then improved by six strokes to card an 81 on Sunday. Opatz had an 85 in the opening round and then an 83 in Round 2.

Molly Zavadil, who won the UM-Morris Invite on Thursday, scot a consistent 170 (85-85) and was in a tie for 48th place. Tiffany Swanson and Emily Frosaker were the final two members of the Cobbers to compete at the tournament. Swanson rounded out the team for CC and shot a 186 (92-94) while Frosaker competed as an individual and shot a 189 (103-86).

Concordia will hope to continue their season of improvement when they compete at the Gustavus Fall Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 29 and Sunday, Sept. 30 at the Le Sueur Country Club and North Links Golf Course.
