Zavadil And Mireault Go Low To Help CC To Team Title

MORRIS, Minn. (9/20/12)—Molly Zavadil and Amy Mireault continued their quality play in 2012 as they both shot a tournament-best 85 to lead Concordia to the team championship at the UM-Morris Cougar Invite. Zavadil eventually claimed medalist honors due to the scorecard playoff.

Zavadil and Mireault have led the Cobbers in all three previous meets this season.  The pair has traded low-score honors for Concordia with Mireault being the top CC golfer at last weekend's DIII Midwest Classic. Zavadil shot a 42-43 at the Cougar Invite while Mireault came home in 41-44.

The Cobbers had a pair of other golfers finish in the top 10 at the tournament. Kristi Opatz carded an 89 (43-46) and claimed fifth place while Katie Nelson had the biggest improvement from front 9 to back 9 of any golfer at the tourney and placed 10th. Nelson struggled to a 52 on the opening nine holes but then regrouped at the turn to fire a 40 on the back 9 and finished with a 92. Her 40 on the last nine holes was the lowest 9-hole score for any golfer in the invite.

Dana Meslow was the fifth member of the Concordia varsity squad at the tournament. She shot a 52-46 (98) and was in a tie for 17th place. Tiffany Swanson, Emily Frosaker and Kristen Solbrack all played as individuals for CC. Swanson led that trio. She fired a 93 (47-46) and finished in a tie for eighth place.

Concordia will now head south to Marshall to compete in the Southwest MN State Invite on Saturday, Sept. 22 and Sunday, Sept 23. Both rounds will take place at the Marshall Golf Course.
