Cobbers Hold On For First Victory In Conference Opener

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/13/21)---Concordia outscored St. Catherine in each of the first three quarters and had a 14-point lead with 6-minutes left in regulation, but had to hold off a late rally before posting a 63-58 win in the home – and conference – opener.

The Cobbers wet 2-for-5 and had a pair of turnovers in a 5-minute span as the Wildcats cut the lead to three points at 61-58 with 1:00 left in the second half. St. Catherine would miss a game-tying 3-pointer and then a pair of free throws by freshman Greta Tollefson sealed the deal.

The win helps Concordia even its overall record at 1-1. The Wildcats are now 1-2 for the year.

The Cobbers put down two more field goals and three more 3-pointers to come up with the win. CC was 22-for-49 (44.9%) from the floor and 7-for-21 (33.3%) from outside the arc. SCU shot 33.9% (20-for-59) from the field and 21.1% (4-for-19) from 3-point range.

CC also held a 30-26 edge on the boards. After that, the stat edge belonged to the Wildcats.

Junior guard Emily Beseman led all players with a season-high 24 points. She was 7-for-15 from the floor and 5-for-9 from 3-point range. Beseman also had a team-high six rebounds and a team-high six assists.

Mary Sem and Vanessa Kedl gave Concordia a trio of double-digit point producers. Sem was 5-for-8 from the floor and finished with 12 points and five rebounds. Kedl was 4-for-8 from the field and had a season-high 10 points.

Sophomore Maddie Guler had four assists to go along with four rebounds and four points.

Tollefson didn't miss a shot all game. She was 2-for-2 from the floor, 2-for-2 from outside the arc and 2-for-2 from the foul line which were the final points of the game.
 
UP NEXT: Concordia will head to Northfield to take on Carleton on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. The Knights are 1-1 on the year and are coming off a 62-52 win over Luther on Friday.
