NORTHFIELD, Minn. (11/02/24)--- The Cobbers came out strong at the MIAC Championship meet as nine runners ran to a season or personal best, highlighted by Brady Goss' All-Conference Honorable Mention performance.
The Cobbers made the second of three trips this season to Northfield. The MIAC Championship Meet was held at St. Olaf and the Cobber also raced at St. Olaf on September 21.
Concordia finished eighth out of 11 teams in the final standings at the conference meet. Concordia was within 10 points of seventh place, and 23 points shy of sixth place.
The Cobbers were led, once again, by sophomore Brady Goss. Goss has been the top runner for Concordia in all five races this year.
Goss had his best collegiate race as he ran under 26 minutes for the first time in his career. Goss had a devastating kick in the final 100 meters where he passed three runners to help get him post a time of 25:55 and place 20th in the 172-runner field. Goss made up 10 Meters on the third runner he passed.
Finishing in the Top 25 at the championship meet earned Goss All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. His time was also a personal best by 20 seconds, and 40 seconds faster than the time he posted at St. Olaf in September.
Goss's finishing time also marked the third consecutive meet where he has gotten either a season best or personal best.
Finishing behind Brady Goss, and just 2 places and 0.6 seconds away from earning an All-Conference Honorable Mention award was Tyler Goss. Tyler, like his brother, ran a personal best time of 26:05. It is a personal best by 13 seconds and the second straight conference meet where he posted a personal best.
The next Cobber runner was junior Carter Ferber. Ferber was just one second away from a personal best as he clocked 27:09 and finished 59th overall. That time was 1:59 faster than what Ferber ran in September.
Sophomore Brady Andrews was the Cobber's fourth runner. Andrews placed 70th with a personal best time of 27:26, beating his old personal best by 16 seconds and beating his
time from September by 2:23.
The scoring crew was rounded out by senior Lucas Hinojos, who crossed the line as the team's No.5 runner. Hinojos' place was just above the 100 mark, finishing in the 101 spot.
Hinojos ran a season-best time of 28:15, beating his old season-best by 56 seconds and bettering his September time by 3:00. He has consistently been dropped time all year long.
Overall, Concordia's Top 5 dropped a combined total of 9:00 from their last race at St. Olaf. It was also the fourth consecutive meet that the Cobber's Top 5 didn't change order.
The Cobbers will have two weeks of training before their final meet of the year. They will once again travel to Northfield, this time to the east side of the Cannon River, to compete in the NCAA North Regional Meet on the campus of Carleton College. Carleton was the host of the 2023 MIAC Conference Championship, a race all of the Top 5 Cobber finishers competed in. The gun for the race will go off at noon on Saturday, Nov. 16.
