Cobbers Get Into Championship Meet Shape
LA CROSSE , Wis. (10/19/13)— Concordia used their final regular-season meet to get their top runner into championship meet shape and their freshmen crew a taste of top team racing. Ryan Sederquist led the Cobbers at the Jim Drews Invitational hosted by UW-La Crosse on Saturday.
Sederquist and his young teammates participated in the 30-team meet and came away with a 22nd-place team finish. The meet was one of the premier events of the fall and featured all the top teams in the region as well as the MIAC. CC was one of 10 conference schools to participate in the meet.
Sederquist, who was running in a competitive meet for the first time in three weeks, was the only CC runner to finish in the top 100. Sederquist came home in a time of 26:32.6 over the 8k course and finished in 72nd place. His time is the fastest 8k time of the season for the senior.
Freshman Matthew Lillehaugen continues to be the team's consistent No.2 runner. Lillehaugen ran a 27:11.5 and was just outside the top 100 as he finished in 101st place. Lillehaugen was one of three CC freshmen to place in the team's top 5 at the meet.
Carl Wahlin and Cody Bekkerus were the other two newcomers who were in the top 5 for Concordia. Wahlin was the team's No.3 runner and finished with a time of 28:04.9 while Bekkerus rounded out the top 5 in a time of 28:24.3
Henry Dobbs was the only other upperclassmen in the team's top 5 at the meet. Dobbs was No.4 for the Cobbers and crossed the line in 28:15.6.
The Cobbers will now head into the championship season when they compete at the MIAC Meet on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Como Park GC in St. Paul.
