Quartet Of Top 6 Finishes Highlights Day 1 at MIAC Meet
ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/25/23)---The 400-meter senior tandem of Cal Wright and Hayden Gagnon paced Concordia on Day 1 at the MIAC Championship Meet. The duo both finished in the Top 5 of the event, which helped the Cobbers move into sixth place in the team standings.
Wright and Gagnon were two of the four Cobber athletes who scored team points on the day.
The Cobbers finished with 26 team points after the first day of the conference meet. They are two points clear of Macalester who is in seventh place.
Wright placed third in the 400 with a time of 49.39. That time was a tick off his season-best mark of 49.23 which he posted at the SJU Invite on Feb. 11. Gagnon was only .47 of a second behind Wright, although the two competed in different heats. Gagnon posted a season-best time of 49.86 and finished in fifth place.
The two 400-meter athletes scored 10 team points for Concordia in the one event.
The top individual finish for Concordia on Saturday belonged to sophomore Anthony Marsh. Marsh cleared the bar at 6-03.50 in the high jump and finished second. His height tied for the top mark in the event, but because of prior misses he finished in second.
Freshman Logan Clark came through with a Top 8 finish in his very first collegiate conference meet. He qualified for the final of the 60-meter hurdles in a season-best time of 8.89. He upped his finish by one spot in the finals by crossing the line in 8.83 and placed sixth.
UP NEXT: The Cobbers will look to post more Top 8 finishes when they compete on Day 2 at the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 11:45 a.m. at Macalester College.
