Wright Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors
MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/26/22)---Senior All-American Cal Wright (Mora, Minn.) was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 6 Team in Division III track and field/cross country it was announced on Thursday.
It is the first time that Wright has earned the prestigious award, and he now advances to the national ballot for Academic All-America voting. He becomes the Cobber first track and field student-athlete to win the honor since 2017 when Matthew Lillehaugen was named to the All-District and All-American teams.
Only 10 student-athletes were recognized as Academic All-District 6 recipients which included over 100 entrants from schools from Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin. Concordia was one of only four schools in the MIAC to have a student-athlete receive the District 6 honor.
The 2021-22 Academic All-District Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in June.
Wright has a 3.85 grade point average while majoring in biology, and is finishing the best track season of his college career.

Wright carried his indoor success over to the outdoor season where he broke the school record in the 400 meters on three occasions. He originally broke the record on April 2 at the South Dakota Early Bird Meet. Wright topped that during the finals of the MIAC Championship Meet when he clocked a 47.68 and won the event. His third record-breaking run came at the Wis.-La Crosse NCAA Qualifier Meet with a time of 47.56.
Wright is seeded No.13 in the 400 heading into the national meet. He will compete in the prelims of the 400 meters on Friday, May 27 at 3:15 p.m.
