Cal Wright Named MIAC Track Athlete Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/10/22)---Senior All-American Cal Wright was named the MIAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week after breaking the 38-year-old Concordia school record in the 400 meters on Saturday at the St. Olaf Ole Open..

He earns the conference weekly award for the first time in his career, and is the first Cobber athlete to receive the honor since 2014 when Alex Benzegala earned the award on Apr. 15.

Wright ran away from the competition in the 400 meters at the St. Olaf Ole Open on Saturday. He fought a head wind on the backstretch, and posted a time of 47.80 That mark shattered the old school record of 48.53 set back in 1984 by Dave Swanberg.

Wright's time is also the fastest in the MIAC this year, and one of the Top 10 times in the history of the MIAC in the 400.

With his finishing time, Wright also moved up to the No.12 spot in all of Division III this season which will – more than likely – earn him a spot at the NCAA National Outdoor Meet.

Wright earned All-American honors in the 400 meters at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championship Meet when he finished fifth with a time of 48.99.
