A January Snowbank Pile Of MIAC Top 10 Marks At UND

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (01/29/22)---Grand Forks was good to the Cobbers.

Concordia went north and proceeded to post eight different individual MIAC Top 10 season marks and the fastest time in the conference in the 4x400-meter relay.

The nine different Top 10 conference marks resulted in a fourth-place finish for the Cobbers at the UND Open. CC was the top non-NCAA DI or DII team at the meet.

The team highlight came in the 4x4 relay where the team of Cal Wright, Trevor Tiongson, Albara Mutleq and Tommy Kern raced to a time of 3:20.46. That time was only .29 of a second behind the DI squad from NDSU which won the event. The Cobbers' finishing time is the fastest in the MIAC this year and 11th best in all of DIII this season.

Kern continued to open eyes in his freshman season. After breaking the school record in the 400 meters in December at the NDSU Alumni Meet, Kern turned in a pair of conference Top 3 times in Grand Forks. Kern raced to a 22.66 in the 200 meters which is the second fastest time in the MIAC this year. He also clocked a 7.13 in the 60-meter dash which is the third best in the league this year.

Fellow freshman Anthony Marsh was right behind Kern in the 60 meters, crossed the line in 7.15 and is now tied for fourth in the MIAC.

Senior Cal Wright joined the contingent of Cobber Top 10 marks when he raced to a 22.92 in the 200 meters. That time is tied for ninth in the MIAC.

Colin Schuller added to the good times in Grand Forks. He jumped into the Top 10 in the conference by running a 51.97 in the 400 meters. That time is sixth fastest in the MIAC.

The other two top MIAC tracks were turned in by the All-American duo of Munir Isahak and Jesse Middendorf. Isahak recorded the only event win at the UND Open for Concordia when he posted a roller-coaster finishing time of 14:47.37 in the 5000 meters. Isahak's mark is No.2 in the MIAC this year.

Middendorf, who owns the top time in the MIAC in the 600 meters this season, stepped up in distance in Grand Forks and earned a runner-up finish in the mile with a time of 4:22.90. That time is No.8 in the conference in 2022.

The top field finish for the Cobbers at UND came courtesy of a form change in the shot put. Sophomore Cooper Folkestad altered his delivery approach and it paid off as he recorded a season-best distance of 51-05.00 which was good for second place in the meet and is the farthest mark in the MIAC.

Folkestad was also fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 49-06.50.

Senior Jake Kerzman had a Top 3 finish in the weight throw. He came through with a mark of 49-07.25. He is fifth in the MIAC in the event this year. Kerzman was also 10th in the shot put at UND and recorded the top CC finish in the indoor discus with a throw of 135-07.

UP NEXT: Concordia will travel across the Red River and compete in the NDSU Bison Open and Multi-Event Meet on Feb. 4-5.
