Cobbers Celebrate Senior Day With A High 5

FARGO, N.D. (4/6/25)---Concordia celebrated its annual Senior Day with a High 5!

The Cobbers honored lone senior Séan Martin before their match with St. John's and went out and won five singles matches to secure their fifth straight win.

Concordia trailed the Johnnies 2-1 after the three doubles bouts, but once again showed their prowess in singles play and claimed five of the six individual matches to come away with a 6-3 team win. It is the first win for the Cobbers over the Johnnies since 2017.

The Cobbers have now won five straight matches, four in conference play, and are in the thick of the playoff race for the sixth spot in the MIAC tournament. CC is 6-8 in all matches and 3-5 in league play.

The six overall wins and three MIAC victories are the most for Concordia since the 2018 season when they made the conference playoffs.

Junior Kai Pierce pulled off the only double-win day for the Cobbers. He teamed with Daniel Skrade to win 8-3 at No.3 doubles and outlasted his opponent 6-7 (3), 6-3, 10-5 at No.4 singles. Pierce and Skrade have four doubles' wins on the year, which is tied for the team lead.

The singles win was Pierce's sixth of the season and that is tied for second-most on the team.

The Cobbers earned the win over the Johnnies in the super-set tie-break as they won three of their five singles matches in extra points.

Besides Pierce, Logan Sandberg and Hunter Rice also claimed victories in the super-set – and like Pierce, they all lost the first set. Sandberg won 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 at No.3 singles and Rice came back from getting bageled in the first set to post a 0-6, 7-5, 10-5 win at No.6 singles. Rice's win was his first conference victory of the year.

Sandberg, who upped his win streak to five matches, is now 7-7 for the season and leads the team in singles wins.

The two straight-set singles wins belonged to Ryoga Yano and Kai Kringlie. Yano played the quickest singles bout of the day as he cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No.1 singles, while Kringlie needed to go to the tie-breaker in the second set to claim a 6-4, 7-6 (5) win at No.5 singles.

Yano extended his team-best win streak to six matches and is 6-4 on the year, while Kringlie recorded his third straight win and has five victories for the season.

Concordia will close out conference play when they face Hamline in Rogers on Sunday, Apr. 13 at 1 p.m.
