Cobbers Finish Off The Fall On The Road

ST. PAUL, Minn. (10/06/24)---Concordia finished off the fall portion of its schedule by playing a pair of conference road matches. The Cobbers fell 7-2 at St. Olaf on Saturday and then dropped a tight 6-3 decision at Macalester on Sunday.

The two team scores were identical to the score lines from last season.

On Saturday, the Cobbers lost two of the three doubles bouts with Hunter Rice and Daniel Skrade coming away with the only victory. They posted a win in the tie-breaker as they gutted out an 8-7 (7-5) decision at No.3 doubles.     

Junior Logan Sandberg had the lone singles win for the Cobbers. He recorded a straight-set 6-4, 6-1 win at No.2 singles.

The closest other singles affair came in the No.3 spot where Kai Pierce was edged in the super-set tie-breaker. Pierce won the opener 7-5 before falling 6-1 in the second set. The super-set went back and forth before the Ole opponent came away with a couple of key breaks and posted a 10-8 win.

Like the match against St. Olaf, Concordia was down 2-1 after doubles play against the Scots. The No.1 doubles team of Pierce and Isaac Maddock got CC on the board with an 8-5 win.

Maddock and Pierce would also claim the singles wins to record all three team points. Both singles matches were won in the super-set tie-breaker. Maddock claimed a 7-5, 1-6, 10-5 victory at No.1 singles and Pierce won 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 at No.3 singles.

Sandberg nearly posted a win at No.2 singles but fell in the super-set by a 6-1, 1-6, 10-5 score line.
