Former Cobber David Youngs Hired As Men's Tennis Coach
MOORHEAD, Minn. (7/11/24)---Concordia Athletic Director Rachel Bergeson announced that former Cobber student-athlete David Youngs has been named the new head coach of the men's tennis program.
Youngs takes over for Nate Young, who resigned earlier in the summer to pursue a business career.
"We are excited to welcome David back to Concordia in this role," Bergeson said." As a former Cobber student-athlete, he has a deep understanding of the Concordia experience we want to provide."
Youngs played for Concordia from 2017-20. He helped the Cobbers earn a spot in the MIAC playoffs in 2018. Youngs compiled 19 singles wins and 25 doubles victories during his three years as part of the men's tennis program.
"Concordia College and Cobber tennis are integral to who I am as a person," Youngs said. "I couldn't be more excited to help foster growth and success for our student-athletes both on and off the court. Thanks to coach Young, we're situated in an outstanding place right now and I'm grateful for the support of Rachel Bergeson and Ben Schneweis as we embark on the next chapter of Cobber Men's Tennis."
Youngs has compiled an extensive coaching and teaching background during his time in college and since graduation. He served as an Assistant Coach at Fargo South High School from 2017-19. He went on to serve as an instructor for lessons at Gustavus and then at the prestigious Edina Country Club. Youngs was a volunteer assistant coach for the Cobbers this past season and currently works as a Tennis Professional at Courts Plus in Fargo.
Youngs graduated from Concordia in 2020 with a degree in Communication Studies and Multimedia Journalism.
After graduation, Youngs worked at Gustavus Adolphus College as an admissions counselor. He was also Director of Communications for the Cory Hepola for Governor campaign and went on to work as a Marketing and Communications Director for Premier Sports Psychology from 2022-24. Youngs recently moved back to the Fargo-Moorhead area where he works as a Communications Coordinator for Cass County Electric Cooperative.
Youngs comes from a tennis-coaching family. His father, Vic Youngs, is a member of the North Dakota Tennis Hall of Fame and was the longtime head coach at Fargo South HS where he won multiple North Dakota State titles.
David Youngs will begin his head coaching duties on Monday, July 15.
