Benson's 3rd Straight Top 3 Leads Cobbers At TC Classic

EDINA, Minn. (9/26/22)---Freshman Gabe Benson fired three rounds in the 70's to lead Concordia at the 3-round Twin Cities Classic. Benson finished with a final total of 230 (75-78-77) to record his third straight Top 15 finish, which helped the Cobbers place eighth in the final team standings.

Concordia started the tournament by shooting a 304 at Elk River CC. That would be their best team score of the weekend. The Cobbers then posted a 319 on Sunday at the Links at Northfork before finishing the invite with a 324 at the Edina CC.

The Cobbers finished the tournament by recording 140 pars over the three rounds which was the fourth most among the 18 teams. CC was also sixth in birdies (27) and Par 4 holes (4.43).

Benson was the only Cobber to post three rounds in the 70's. He placed in a tie for 14th place in the final individual standings in a field that included 106 competitors. He has now put up eight straight marks in the 70's after opening his college career with an 80. Benson was tied for ninth in birdies at the Twin Cities Classic.

With his score of 230 over the three rounds, Benson now leads Concordia in scoring average. He is average score this season is 75.7.

Junior Justin Lamp was the team's No.2 finisher. He started with a 76 on Saturday, then fired a 79 on Day 2 before capping the invite with an 82. His total of 237 was good for a tie for 29th place. Lamp was ninth in the tournament in Par 4 scoring. He averaged 4.27 over the 30 Par 4's in the tournament.

Mason Plante, who was playing as an individual at the invite, was the team's No.3 finisher. He posted a total of 240 (77-80-83) which got him just inside the Top 40 in 39th place.  

Landon Olson opened the tournament with a 77 and then a 79, before falling back to an 85 on Monday. His total of 241 was No.4 for the Cobber contingent at the invite. Olson is second on the team in scoring this season with a 75.9 average over his nine rounds of play.

UP NEXT: Concordia will head to Bunker Hills GC in Coon Rapids to compete at the MIAC Championship Meet on Oct. 1-3. The Cobbers finished fourth at last year's conference tournament.
