Henke Leads Quartet Of Top 15 Cobbers At SJU Invitational

SARTELL, Minn. (9/19/21)---Concordia shot almost an identical team score on Day 2 of the St. John's Invitational and was able to move up one spot in the final team standings.

The Cobbers opened the tournament by shooting a 308 on Saturday at the St. Cloud CC and was in sixth place heading into the final round. CC then carded a 309 on a windy day at the Greystone GC in Sartell and moved into fifth place in the final team standings.

Concordia had four golfers finish in the Top 16 of the meet that had 66 golfers participate. CC was led by sophomore Sam Henke who opened the tournament with an even-par 72 and battled through the win on Sunday to post a 76. His 2-day total of 148 was good for a tie for fifth place. It is the highest finish of the season for Henke who earned All-MIAC honors last spring.

Senior Mason Opheim was one shot behind Henke at 149. He opened with a 1-under 71 and then came home with a 78 on Sunday. His total of 149 is two shots better than his outing at the same tournament in 2019 when he fired a 151 and finished in a tie for 25th place.

Justin Lamp was the most consistent of the seven Cobber golfers who were chosen for the meet. He posted identical scores of 76 on both days and finished in a tie for 12th place. The consistency for Lamp carries over to his two tournaments this year. He has posted 8-over totals in both meets he has played and finished in the Top 15 in both.

Tyler Bossert was the final member of the Cobbers to finish in the Top 15 over the weekend. Bossert started the weekend with a 79 but shot the lowest total of any CC golfer on Sunday and came home with a 74. His total of 153 put him in a tie for 14th place.

UP NEXT: Concordia will have one more tournament before the MIAC Championship Meet. The Cobbers will compete at the annual 3-day Twin Cities Classic on Sept. 25-27 which is hosted by Gustavus and features the top teams in the region.
