Another Cobber Close Call

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (1/25/23)---Concordia was perfect from the free throw line but it wasn't enough as they dropped another close decision. The Cobbers lost 73-67 at St. Olaf on Wednesday to add to their list of close defeats.

Concordia has now lost four straight with the largest margin being six points, and the average point difference in those four games being 4.75 points.

The Cobbers led for over half of the first period and trailed by one at the break. CC went 2-for-10 from outside the arc in the second half, and St. Olaf hung on down the stretch for the 5-point win.

Concordia (6-12, 4-9 MIAC) shot 47.4% (27-for-57) from the floor and 28.6% (6-for-21) from 3-point range in the game. CC was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line.

The margin of victory proved to be the difference in free throws in the game. While CC made all seven of their foul shots, the Oles went to the line 11 more times and made six more free throws.

St. Olaf (12-6, 8-5 MIAC) finished the game by shooting 51.9% (28-for-54) from the floor and 25.0% (4-for-16) from distance.

The Oles had the edge around the basket for the game. St. Olaf held a 32-26 advantage in rebounds and a 42-32 edge in points in the paint.

Matthew Johnson led Concordia in scoring for the third straight game and the ninth time this season. He finished with 20 points and also came away with a team-high six rebounds.

Senior point guard Jackson Jangula didn't miss a shot all game as he went 7-for-7 from the floor, 2-for-2 from outside the arc and 1-for-1 from the free throw stripe. He finished with 17 points.

Rowan Nelson added 11 points, while Jacob Cook had six points, five rebounds and two assists.
