Nelson Earns Historic MIAC Postseason Double

MOORHEAD, Minn. (02/28/22)---Rowan Nelson (Melrose, Minn./Melrose HS) finished off his first conference collegiate campaign by being named to the MIAC All-Conference Third Team as well as the All-First-Year Team. The two awards come after Nelson finished fourth in the league in scoring in conference games and led all first-year players in points per game.

Senior David Birkeland (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) was selected as the team's representative on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

Nelson is the first Concordia player to ever be named to one of the MIAC All-Conference Teams and also be placed on the MIAC All-First-Year Team since that award's inception in 1992.    

Nelson becomes the first Cobber player to earn All-Conference honors since Dylan Alderman and Austin Nelson also earned Third Team awards in 2017. He is the first CC player to be named to the MIAC All-First-Year Team since 2007 when James Baldwin received the honor.

Nelson played in all 18 conference games for the Cobbers in 2022. He averaged 16.6 points per game which was fourth best among all players and tops among all first-year athletes.

Nelson scored in double-digits in 17 of the 18 MIAC games. He put up a season-high 25 points against regular-season champion St. John's and conference tournament runner-up Macalester. He scored at least 20 points on five different occasions during the MIAC schedule.  

Nelson shot 46.7% from the floor and 74.7% from the free throw line in league games. He also averaged 3.8 rebounds.
