First-Half Stretch Sends Cobbers To Home Loss

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/20/21)---Concordia outscored Wis.-Superior 15-10 in the final 4:30 of play, and 36-32 in the entire second half, but a slow start cost the Cobbers in their 63-58 loss to the Yellowjackets.

The loss is the second straight at home for Concordia who falls to 1-3 on the year. Superior puts an end to its 3-game losing slide and is now 2-3 for the season.

The decisive stretch in the game started at the 12:26 mark of the first half and lasted until the 6:07 mark. During that 6:19 stretch, the Cobbers were outscored 16-2 and saw a 2-point lead turn into a 14-point deficit.  

Concordia shot 51.9 % (14-for-27) from the floor in the second half and held a 19-11 edge in rebounds in the second 20 minutes of play. The Cobbers connected on 38.1% (8-for-21) of their shots from the floor in the first half as compared to a 43.3% (13-for-30) clip for the Yellowjackets. Superior outrebounded CC 20-12 in the first half and held a 16-10 advantage in points in the pain.

The Cobbers shot 45.8% (22-for-48) from the floor for the game which is the second highest mark of the season for CC. The Yellowjackets made 44.9% (22-for-49) of their shots from the field.

Neither team had the shooting touch from outside the arc. Concordia went 3-for-13 (23.1%) from distance, while UWS was 3-for-16 (18.8%).

Both teams finished with 31 rebounds and Superior held a slim 28-26 edge in points in the paint.     

Junior Braeton Motschenbacher had a team-high 15 points – all of which came in the second half. He also grabbed five rebounds.

Charlie Rasmussen and Rowan Nelson both had 10 points each. Rasmussen also put up a team-high six rebounds.

UP NEXT: Concordia will stay home and host Macalester in their final game before the Thanksgiving break. The Cobbers will battle the Scots on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 7:15 p.m. Macalester is 3-3 overall and 0-1 in league play after dropping a 63-31 decision at home against St. Mary's on Saturday.
