Tough Two Games In Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (4/14/12)—Concordia dropped a pair of close decisions at Augsburg on Saturday. The Cobbers staged a four-run rally only to concede a walk-off single in the opener and lose 5-4 and then fell 4-1 in the nightcap.

The two losses snapped Concordia's two-game winning streak. CC is now 12-13 overall and 4-6 in the MIAC. Augsburg wins for the 21st time this season – the most since 2010 for the Auggies and is now 21-8 overall and 7-3 in the MIAC.

Augsburg built a 4-0 lead in the first game by scoring three times in the third inning and then once more in the fifth. Concordia then staged their comeback in the sixth when five of the first six batters in the frame reached base. The big hit came off the bat of Brian Guler who laced a one-out triple to center field that plated a pair of runs.

The Cobbers weren't able to get anything started in the seventh and then the Auggies won the game in the bottom of the inning on a one-out single to left field.

Concordia was outhit 9-7 in the opener. Michael Olson was the only CC player to record more than one hit in the game. He went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Senior pitcher Zach Frappier pitched the entire game. He allowed just one earned run and struck out four.

The Cobbers never strung hits together in the second game and lost by three. CC had only one inning where they put up more than one hit and that was quickly nullified by a double play. Five different Concordia hitters had a single hit.

Shawn Krueger started the game and pitched the first 3.0 innings. He gave up seven hits and three earned runs. Luke Kramer pitched a pair of innings and allowed one earned run and then Chris Gilson pitched a scoreless sixth inning.

Concordia will now have seven straight home games. The Cobbers will face non-conference opponent Vally City State in a single game on Tuesday, Apr. 17 and then squares off against Gustavus in a doubleheader on Wednesday, Apr. 18 starting at 1 p.m.
