Even Steven Against Loras

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (3/16/12)—Concordia got a complete-game two-hitter from Zach Frappier in their first-game 2-1 win against Loras but then couldn't string consecutive hits together in the nightcap and fell 4-2. The loss in game 2 was the first in four games for the Cobbers.

Frappier picked up where he left off last weekend when he earned a complete-game win against Luther. He retired the first 13 batters he faced and did not allow a hit until the top of the sixth inning. In all, Frappier gave up two hits and one earned run as he lowered his season earned run average to 1.59. He is now2-1 on the season.

Concordia (3-3) put up their only runs of the game in the fifth and sixth innings. Zach Hinkemeyer walked to start the inning and then scored from third on a single off the bat of Michael Olson. Brad Olson scored the eventual game-winning run when he led off the sixth with a double to right field and then came home on a double play ball.

The Cobbers had seven different players get one hit in the opener and went on to outhit Loras 7-2.

The second game hinged on Concordia's three defensive errors. The Duhawks scored three of their four runs with two outs in an inning and all three came after a CC error.

Concordia had a pair of pitchers combine to only allow one earned run in the loss. Shawn Krueger started the game and went the first 3.2 innings. He gave up one earned run on five hits. Chris Gilson came on during the fourth frame and allowed only one hit and no earned runs in the final 2.1 innings of play.

The Cobbers were outhit 6-4 in the finale. Hinkemeyer went 2-for-3 in the game and finished the day 3-for-4. Michael Olson and Brian Guler had the other hits for Concordia.

The same two teams will square off in a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 17 beginning at 7 a.m. in the Metrodome.
