Another Weekend, Another Batch Of School Records

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (2/15/25)---It has started to become routine for the Cobbers. It's not a matter of if there will be a record broken, but which record, by who and by how much. This time the records were broken against MIAC competition.

The Cobbers headed east for the first time this year to compete on the same track that will host the MIAC Championship Meet in two weeks at St. John's University and participated in the annual St. Ben's Invite.

Jenna Kalevik decided that two weeks is long enough for her old 60-meter hurdle record to stand. Kalevik took first in both the prelims and finals. Her prelim time of 9.08 was the faster of the two. Kalevik is first in the MIAC this year by over two-tenths of a second.

Emily Rengo wanted to join in on the fun by breaking her own school record time in the 60-meter dash in the prelims with a time of 7.89. She came back and placed second in the finals.

Andie Sandman placed fourth with a personal best time of 7.94. The duo are now the fastest and second-fastest 60-meter runners in school history. Prior to 2025, the old school record was 7.95 set back in 2004.

Rengo and Sandman weren't done with their record-setting day as they came back with Piper Osborne and Emma Warner to place second in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:45.35. That time is also a school record time, taking 0.04 seconds off the record they broke earlier in the season. That time currently ranks second in the MIAC this year.

Kyla Nygaard ran a pair of season-best times. Nygaard took second in both the 200 and 400. Nygaard ran a time of 26.63 in the 200, placing her ninth in the MIAC this year, and 58.03 in the 400, putting her fourth in the MIAC.

Nygaard also helped the 4x400 relay team of Meg Shercliffe, Kalevik and Taylor Christenson to a second-place finish with a time of 4:13.10.

The Cobber distance crew had success at the meet as well. Senior Drew Frolek and first-year athlete Kelyn Henry-Perlich both ran personal best times in the 1000 meters. Frolek took home the victory with the sixth-best time in Cobber history at 3:02.95. Henry-Perlich was a few ticks behind with the 16th-fastest time in Cobber history. Her time of 3:06.66 was good for third place. Those are the fourth and ninth fastest times in the MIAC this year.

The duo also competed the previous day at the SDSU Classic. Both raced the 800 meters, with Frolek running a season's best time of 2:21.30(2:22.06c) and Henry-Perlich running a time of 2:23.99 (2:25.26c). They are now ranked fifth and 13th in the MIAC this year.

The next Cobbers success came from a trio of 5000-meter runners. First-year runners Ashley Nelson and Brooklyn Hart were joined by senior Airial Johnson and broke into the all-time Top 20 list for the Cobbers. Nelson's first-place finish was the highlight of the race. Nelson, competing in her first collegiate 5k, ran a time of 18:37.09 on her way to winning the event. That time jumps her all the way up to fifth on the Concordia all-time list and makes her the 12th runner in school history to go under 19 minutes in the 5k.

Hart was also competing in her first collegiate 5k and placed fourth with a time of 19:01.93. That time is the 13th fastest in school history. Johnson didn't want to be left out on the top 20 all-time performances as she ran a personal best time of 19:27.18 putting her 19th on the all-time list, and placing seventh in the meet. With those times, Nelson ranks sixth in the MIAC, Hart ranks ninth and Johnson ranks 14th.

Osborne highlighted the field events. She posted a personal best in the triple jump. Her jump of 36-00 placed her second, ranks her third in the MIAC this year and ninth on the all-time Cobber list.

Brynley Coleman followed Osborne by placing second in the pole vault. Coleman cleared the bar set at 10-06.75. Coleman is No.5 in the MIAC this year.

Kalevik followed her record-breaking performance with a season-best leap in the high jump. Kalevik was able to soar over the bar set at 4-11.75. Kalevik then went on to jump 15-08.75 in the long jump, placing sixth overall. Kalevik is ranked fourth in the high jump and 11th in the long jump in the conference this season.

Rounding out the meet for the Cobbers was a Top 10 finish by senior Brooke Kangas in the weight throw. Her throw of 42-11.5 placed her ninth in the meet. She also ranks ninth in the MIAC this year.

The Cobbers will have one last chance to post MIAC Championship times or distances when they go back up to UND. They will compete in the UND Tune-Up on Friday, Feb. 21 at 11 a.m.
