MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/25/25)---How did the Cobbers start 2025?

With six event winners, nine Top 10 MIAC performances, and one shattered school record.
The Cobbers kicked off the annual Cobber Open by shattering the school's 4x200-meter relay record. The team of Emily Rengo, Andie Sandman, Piper Osborne, and Kyla Nygaard took 1.3 seconds off the school record they set back in February of last year. That is the top time in the MIAC this year by over 3 seconds.

Sandman followed up her role in the 4x200 with a first-place finish in the 60-meter dash. Sandman ran 8.02 in the prelims, then became the third Cobber in the history of the program to run under 8 seconds, clocking 7.97 in the finals. That time is 0.02 off the school record and ranks third in the MIAC.

Osborne was right behind Sandman as she clocked an 8.04 in prelims but did not compete in the finals. Her time places her seventh in the MIAC this year. Osborne went on to compete in the 200-meter dash. She won the event by over half a second with a time of 26.87. That time ranks her seventh in the MIAC this year.

Nygaard placed first in the 400, then came back as the anchor on the 4x400-meter relay team to help the Cobbers win the event. The team of Rengo, Emma Warner, Meg Shercliffe, and Nygaard capped the track events with a time of 4:10.39, over 2 seconds faster than second place. That time put the Cobbers in the second position in the MIAC rankings.

Concordia followed up with a trio of top-ten performances in the mile. Senior Drew Frolek and first-year athletes Kelyn Henry-Perlich and Ashley Nelson were all within 3 seconds of each other. Frolek ran 5:29.61 to place sixth, Henry-Perlich ran 5:30.07 to place seventh, and Nelson ran 5:32.03 to place eighth. All three of those times put them in the top 15 in the MIAC.

Jenna Kalevik highlighted the next Cobber win by running a 9.32 in the 60-meter hurdles. She was followed closely by teammate Peyton Selle, who clocked a 9.78 for third place. Those times rank second and sixth in the MIAC this year.

The Cobbers were led in the field by a pair of seventh-place throws from Miranda Travis in the shot put and Brooke Kangas in the weight throw. Travis threw 37-08.5, which also places her seventh in the MIAC. Kangas threw 37-00.5, which places her ninth in the MIAC this year.

The field events were rounded out by first-year pole vaulter Brynley Coleman, who cleared 10-00.75, placing fourth. That height ranks her sixth in the MIAC and puts her at No. 6 all-time in Concordia history.

The Cobbers will get to compete against D-1 schools as they head north on I-29 to Compete in the UND Open on Friday, January 31 at 6:30 p.m.
