Forness Has Banner Second Day At MIAC Heptathlon

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (5/02/14)—Freshman Mikayla Forness jumped five spots and finished third at the MIAC Heptathlon held at Carleton. Forness finished with a career-best point total of 3,918 points and had personal bests in four of the seven events at the meet.

Forness' third-place total was only 18 points behind the runner-up in the competition.

Forness, competing in her first collegiate conference outdoor heptathlon meet, was one of two CC athletes to finish in the top 6. Sophomore Anna Skow-Anderson recorded 3,697 points and placed sixth at the meet. Skow-Anderson was also sixth at last year's MIAC Heptathlon.

Forness started Day 2 of the competition in eighth place and proceeded to gradually increase her point total in all three of the events on Friday. She capped the competition by running a 2:18.46 in the 800 meters which earned her 845 points. Forness was one of only three competitors in the conference heptathlon meet to record over 800 points in a single event.

Forness' time in the 800 meters is also the 11th fastest in school history.

Forness recorded more than 500 points in three other events and had at least 445 in all seven events. She had personal best marks in the shot put, 200 meters, long jump and 800 meters. Forness started the competition by scoring 503 points in the 100-meter hurdles and also had over 500 points in the javelin (522). Her mark of 106-02.00 in the javelin was the farthest of any athlete in the competition. Forness also had the second fastest time of any competitor in the 800 meters.

Skow-Anderson's best event in the heptathlon was the high jump where she scored 666 points. She also scored over 500 points in the shot put (524), 200 meters (614) and 800 meters (635). Her time of 2:34.70 in the 800 meters was a person best.
