Unbeaten Streak Ends In MIAC Opener

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/17/19)---Concordia had its unbeaten streak come to an end as they gave up a pair of goals in each half and lost 4-0 to St. Benedict in the MIAC opener for both teams.

The Cobbers entered the game at 5-0, and having only conceded only two goals in their first five contests of the year.

Concordia's early-season momentum changed in a span of 3:39 in the first 15 minutes of the opening period. CC gave up the eventual game-winning goal at the 10:40 mark of the first half and then the Bennies tacked on a second strike at 14:19.

The Cobbers had several chances in the final 25 minutes of the first half to get within one – or even equalize – but each time they weren't able to get on the end of a finishing strike. Concordia had chances come from the long throw-in from Hannah Sandin and also had four corner kicks in the first period.

Senior Karsen Granning was also able to get behind the St. Benedict defense on the right wing but her crossing services were never met inside the penalty area.

The Bennies finished off the scoring with a pair of goals 5:52 apart at the start of the second half. They added their third goal of the day at 51:07 and then closed out the scoresheet at 56:59.

Concordia was outshot 14-5 in total shots in the gamer and St. Benedict had a 6-2 edge in shots on goal. The Cobbers didn't allow a corner kick all game and had a 6-0 advantage in that stat category.

Granning led all Cobber players with two shots.

Lexi Jemtrud started in goal for Concordia - and played the first 60:16. She made two saves. Erin Larsen finished off the contest by playing the final 29:44.
