Cobber Cook Up Seven Top 6 Finishes At Season Opener

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (11/4/23)---Concordia used a big helping of veterans and a dash of rookies to cook up seven Top 6 finishes at the University of Jamestown Jimmie Open.

Senior Kellen Schauer led the Cobber chefs as he went 3-1 and posted a runner-up finish at 149. Schauer came through with three bonus-point victories in his first three matches before losing to Division II All-American Wyatt Turnquist of Northern State, who is currently ranked No.1 in DII at 149.

Schauer started his season by getting a pin, a tech fall and a major decision over three wrestlers from DII MSU Moorhead.    

Returning All-American Ty Bisek started his junior season by going 4-1 and finishing fifth at 133. His only loss came in the quarterfinals, where he fell to Jason Henschel of Northern State, a 3-time Kansas state champion and a national junior college runner-up in each of the past two seasons.

Bisek responded to the loss by getting a tech fall win over Andrew Ramirez of Minot State.

Senior Tyler Bents and freshman Logan Henningson earned fourth-place finishes at the meet. Bents went 1-1 at 157, while Henningson went 2-2 at 141.

Sophomore Ethan Lebrija tied for the team lead in wins on the day as he went 4-2 and placed sixth at 141. He came through with a pin over Evan Veira of Minot State, a tech fall against Tyson Ullyot of MSU Moorhead and a major decision over Andrew Worthington of Minot State.

Senior Connor Chloupek also had four wins at Jamestown. He opened his campaign at 184 with a pin over Mario Esposito of Minot State. His only loss came against DII wrestler Wyatt Lidberg of the Univ. of Mary, who went on to win the weight class. Chloupek closed out his day with three straight wins. He got a pin over Marcus Allen of Minot State, a 7-0 decision over teammate Nathaniel Kisgen and then a major decision over William Price from MSU Moorhead in the fifth-place match.

Senior heavyweight Ayden Friese was the other CC wrestler with a Top 6 finish. He went 2-2 and recorded wins over Grady Fey and teammate Austin Ratliff.
