Pin Fest Turns Against Cobbers At #2 Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (2/11/23)---If college wrestling duals were determined after three matches, No.24-ranked Concordia would have posted a 12-6 win over No.2-ranked Augsburg. Unfortunately for the Cobbers, the were unable to keep up their early-meet momentum and lost 40-12 in a dual that featured seven pins.

The loss to the Auggies brings the Cobbers' dual meet record to 6-4 on the season. Augsburg wins for the second straight meet and is now 9-1 on the year.

Concordia trailed 6-0 when No.5-ranked Ty Bisek took the mat at 133. Bisek fell behind early when he gave up a takedown in the first period. Bisek used that as a wake-up call, and proceeded to get the escape and a takedown of his own to grab a 3-2 lead. Bisek was then awarded a point for stall warnings on his opponent and led 4-2 after the first period.

Bisek chose to take the down position to start the second period, got a quick reversal and then came up with a pin at the 4:28 mark.

The win was Bisek's 15th straight and his team-leading 25th victory of the year. Bisek is now 25-1 for the season.

The very next match brought about the upset of the day. Senior Cade Lundeen delivered a 1st-round pin against No.5-ranked Sam Stuhl. Like Bisek, Lundeen surrendered an early takedown but then came up with a huge reversal that led to getting Stuhl's shoulders on the mat. The final tap out came at 1:31 of the first period, and gave Lundeen his 10th pin of the year and 24th overall victory.

The dual turned in the Auggies favor after that point.

Jacob Prunty lost a 7-2 decision. Prunty came up with the first points of the match when he claimed a takedown in the first period. Prunty led 2-1 after one period, but then surrendered an escape and takedown in the second period and a 2-point near fall in the third.

The closest match of the day came at 165 where junior Elijah Hunt only trailed 1-0 heading into the third period, but then gave up a takedown and lost 3-0 to No.5-ranked Cooper Willis.

The final four matches of the day featured Augsburg wrestlers that were all ranked in the Top 10 of the nation, and the experience paid off. The Auggies ended the match by scoring four straight pins.
