School-Record Shot Total Pushes Cobbers To 4-0 Win At Northland
ASHLAND, Wis. (11/23/21)---Concordia put up a school-record 68 shots in its 4-0 win over Northland at the Bay Area Civic Arena.
The Cobbers had a period-record 33 shots in the first period alone, and scored at least one in all three periods, on the way to their fourth win of the season. CC is now 4-3 on the year.
It took Concordia a full 14-minutes to get on the board in the first period. In spite of putting up shot after shot on the Lumberjills' goal, the Cobbers were locked in a 0-0 tie until after the 14-minute mark.
Senior Jordie Egerdahl would finally break the ice and come up with the game-winning goal. She scored her first goal of the season at 14:01 of the period on a play that was set up by Kaylie Klemetsrud.
The Cobbers held a 1-0 edge on the scoreboard after the first 20 minutes of play, but outshot Northland 33-8.
The lead would only be two goals after 40 minutes of play – with the shot total ballooning to 52-16.
Jerica Friese scored the only power play goal of the game at the 12:35 mark to stake CC to a 2-goal lead. Klemetsrud earned her second assist of the game and Allison O'Kane also got on the scoresheet for helping set up the goal. For Friese, it was her third goal of the year and third in as many games.
Concordia finally broke free of the Lumberjills in the third period. A goal at the 4:03 mark by senior Brooke McMillen and the fourth of the game was scored by Josie Hell at 14:38.
McMillen's goals was her second of the year and was assisted by Hannah Christian.
Hell scored her second goal in the last three games to put the decision out of reach for Northland. Libby Hinrichs earned her team-leading fifth assist of the year on Hell's tally.
Cobber sophomore goalie Becca Macklin stopped all 20 shots she faced to record her first collegiate shutout – and second win of the season.
Grace Doerring had a career-high eight shots on goal to lead CC. Friese and Maiah McCowan had six shots on target, while Christian, McMillen and O'Kane all had five shots in the game.
Christian now has 29 shots on the year which leads the Cobbers and is tied for third most in the MIAC.
The Cobbers have a season total of 300 shots on goal which leads the MIAC by a full 77 shots.
