Leanne Miller Honored With Win Over Gustavus

MOORHEAD, MInn. (2/15/12)—Concordia celebrated Cancer Awareness night by honoring Leanne Miller and then outscored Gustavus in the second half en route to a 64-56 win in Moorhead on Wednesday.  Tricia Sorensen had 22 points and Alex Lippert added 15 second-half points as Concordia kept sole possession of third place in the league standings with one game remaining in the regular season.

Lippert spurred the Cobbers in the second half after Sorensen hit a jumper at the halftime buzzer to give CC a 25-23 lead. Concordia then used a 7-0 run at the start of the second half to grab a 32-25 lead. The Cobbers would never allow the Gusties to regain the lead in the final 18:00 of play. Lippert continually was able to get inside the Gustavus defense and scored repeatedly from the pain area down the stretch after the Gusties tried to stay within two points. The Cobbers then sealed the game by making six straight free throws in the final 30-seconds of play.

Sorensen led CC with her team-high 22 points. She was 9-for-15 from the floor and also had six rebounds and three steals. Lippert finished with 15 points and also had eight rebounds and two blocks. Emily Thesing was 4-for-5 from the free throw line and ended up with 10 points. She also picked up four assists. Erika Jossart had a game-high five assists for CC.

Concordia will finish off the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 18 when they host St. Ben's at 1 p.m. If the Cobbers are able to post a win against the Blazers they will earn the No.3 seed in the MIAC playoffs and will host the No.6 seed on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
