Doubleheader-A-Day Grind Commences

FARGO, N.D. (4/25/14)—Concordia started their eight games in four days stretch by dropping a pair to Gustavus on Friday in a doubleheader played at Shanley High School in Fargo, N.D.

The Cobbers gave seven multiple-run innings and lost 10-1 and 21-2 in two games that were stopped in the fifth inning due to the eight-run rule. CC has now lost eight straight games and moves to 6-25 in all games and 1-13 in the MIAC. Gustavus has won seven of its last eight games and ups its overall record to 21-13 for the season. The Gusties now own a 15-5 record against conference opponents.

Concordia allowed two runs in the very first inning in the opener and then four more in the third as Gustavus was able to take a 7-0 lead heading to the fourth frame.

The Cobbers were able to score their lone run of the game in the fourth inning when Kellie Morehouse scored on Dominique Giesen's single down the right field line. Morehouse and Giesen had the lone hits in the opener for CC.

The multiple-run inning woes continued in the second game as the Cobbers gave up more than two runs in each of the first four innings. Concordia scored single runs in the third and fifth innings to come up with their two runs in the game.

Concordia had six hits in the finale. Paige Beseman and Madison Little had two hits each. Beseman went 2-for-3 and came up with the lone CC RBI in the game. Little was 2-for-3 and scored both of the Cobber runs.  It was Little's team-leading eighth multiple-hit game of the season.

Giesen and Mackenzie Jensen were responsible for the other Concordia hits in the game. Giesen has now hit safely in three straight games.

The Cobbers will continue with their doubleheader-a-day pace when they host St. Mary's on Saturday, Apr. 26 at noon. The games will be played on the FieldTurf surface inside Jake Christiansen Stadium.
