Cobbers Lose 1-Goal Game At No.-5-Ranked Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. (10/12/24)---Concordia allowed a penalty kick goal in the 77th minute of play and lost 1-0 at No.5-ranked Gustavus in St. Peter on Saturday.

The Cobbers battled the Gusties to a 0-0 battle for the first hour and 15 minutes before a costly slide tackle inside the Concordia penalty area gave Gustavus the score the game-winning goal on the penalty kick.

Concordia is now 1-11-2 in all games and 0-6-2 in MIAC play, while Gustavus remains unbeaten with a 12-0-2 overall mark and a 6-0-1 record in the conference.

The game 1-sided as the Cobbers decided to sit in on defense and make the Gusties get through all 10 field players in the final 35 yards of play to get to the goal.

Concordia packed the defense and tried for the counterattack and almost scored a goal in the 57th minute of play on a dead ball situation. The Cobbers served the ball into the GAC penalty area and had the second ball fall to a CC player who had an open shot on goal but his strike was blocked by a Gustie defender and went over the end line for a corner kick.

The Cobbers were outshot 28-4 in total shots, 7-0 in shots on goal and Gustavus held an 11-1 edge in corner kicks. Brady Lambert, Dylan Sipe, Gavin Groshelle and Noah Meyer had the shots for CC.

Cobber goalie Jensen Waltz made six saves in the game and most were from shots inside the penalty area where he was able to come up with a huge stop.

Concordia will host Bethel on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 3:30 p.m.
