PK Stop King Strikes Again But It Isn't Enough vs. Hamline

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/02/24)---Senior goalie Jensen Waltz added to his school-record penalty kick stop total but it wasn't enough as Concordia lost 3-0 to Hamline at home.

Waltz stopped a pair of penalty kicks during the game to bring his career total to five penalty kick stops. That total is an unofficial Cobber record as records for penalty kick stops weren't kept until after 2010.

The Pipers scored a lone goal in the first half and two more in the final 13 minutes of play to come away with the victory.

Concordia carried the play to Hamline in the first 25 minutes of the second half. The Cobbers won the majority of the 50-50 balls and were able to play the ball through the back of the Piper defense to create chances.

The shots in the second half were even at 4-4 but the Cobbers had the better of that stat until the final 13 minutes when Hamline scored in the 78th minute and again just 1:48 later.

The second goal came directly after the second penalty kick. Waltz stopped the PK but unfortunately, the ball bounced right back to the Hamline player who took the penalty and he was able to bury the rebound before any Cobber defender could get to him.

The final goal came on a breakaway after the Cobbers had pushed players into attack to try and get a goal.

Hamline held a slim 9-7 edge in total shots, while the shots on target were even at 6-6.

Gavin Groshelle and Jagger Hooper had two shots each and both were on frame to lead Concordia.

Waltz finished with three saves in the game but had a quality contest in coming out and grabbing crossing attempts from the Hamline wing players.

Concordia will finish its 2-game homestand when they host St. Mary's on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 3:30 p.m.
